Dear Families
Loleta Union School District is here for each and every family during this difficult time, the last three weeks have been a race to discover how to prep 103 meals per day, package not only meals but homework packets, teachers turning their curriculum into packets, and have both delivered to each family. The Wiyot Tribe, Bear River Tribe and (St. Joes), Loleta Family Resource Center along with our incredible staff working side by side with our Superintendent Autumn Chapman have been successful in creating a new normal for Loleta Elementary. Loleta Elementary is looking forward to continuing to be a community partner resource for your family.
With schools transitioning to distance learning, family engagement is more important than ever. But the circumstances also make it more challenging, especially with families that don’t have access to consistent internet, technology, or tutoring. Loleta is working hard on our current challenge of getting the technology to each family so we can have a distant learning program. Please fill out the survey that you received earlier in the week and return to the school by Friday.
The office will be open from 9:00am – 2:00pm, and you can send an email to larmstrong@loleta.org for any other questions you may have after 2:00pm. Staff is busy working on sanitizing the school, organizing, and getting classrooms ready for our students to return to school.
It is very important to remember that children look to adults for guidance on how to react to stressful events. Acknowledging some level of concern, without panicking, is appropriate and can result in taking the necessary actions that reduce the risk of illness. Teaching children positive preventive measures, talking with them about their fears, and giving them a sense of some control over their risk of infection can help reduce anxiety. This is also a tremendous opportunity for adults to model for children problem-solving, flexibility and compassion as we all work through adjustment daily schedules, balancing work and other activities, getting creative about how we spend time, processing new information from authorities, and connecting and supporting friends and family members in new ways.
We do not often think about it but the knowledge we pass on to our children is substantial and significant. It goes well beyond the ability to read, write, understand numbers or appreciate art. In fact, we teach our children an infinite number of things, including manners, empathy, self-care, how to reason, how to learn and more. From little things to big things, parents are more naturally geared towards teaching than anyone else our children will encounter in their lives. Please keep role modeling, keep parenting and stay positive! You are amazing and you are powerful! Motherhood and Fatherhood is Sacred there is no role more important!
If you have internet access please send an email to Larmstrong@loleta.org with your students name, address, landline phone number, cell phone number, emergency contact name, address, phone number and email address. If you do not please call the office so we can update all of your students’ information.
Thank you to all Loleta Staff we appreciate each staff member, you are AMAZING!
